More outrage, yesterday, continued to trail the threat by the army to declare state of emergency in the southeast states jf their governors allowed further attack on security forces.
Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU) and the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) have described the statement credited to the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, as a reckless talk taken too far.
The two grassroots-based organisations like Ohanaeze Ndigbo in its recent statement, insisted that the army chief lacked the constitutional powers to suspend democratic institutions and declare emergency rule, adding that the statement had further fuelled their apprehension of a conspiracy to wipe Igbo people out of Nigeria.
ASETU’s National President, Chief Emeka Diwe and National Secretary, Gideon Adikwuru in a statement accused the military of plotting another inglorious exercise in the mould of “Operation Python Dance I and II” which claimed lives of several innocent Igbo youths.
“By harbouring a sinister intention to let loose state apparatus and state-sanctioned violence on an innocent people who have endured many years of agony; political marginalization, unjustifiable brutal killings and economic deprivation, Buratai has presented himself as morally and professionally unfit to continue to head the military establishment of Nigeria.
“What this plan to declare a state of emergency in the South East means is a deliberate move to stoke a conflagration of insecurity in our land using national security, so as to depopulate the region and finally hand over our land to Fulani herdsmen.
“Our fears and suspicion that the silence of the security agencies over the wanton killings across our land by Fulani herdsmen is a calculated attempt at ethnic cleansing has been confirmed by Buratai, and we wish to once again draw the attention of the international community to the fact that the Igbo in Nigeria have become sorely an endangered ethnic nationality.
“Nigeria is today a country at war with itself. Bloodletting has become a norm, and human lives carry no value anymore.
“Much of the North is today under terrorist occupation, and the military, which first duty is to ensure the territorial integrity of the country by warding off external aggression and quelling internal insurrection, has appeared confused and at a loss with the situation.
“Yet, the leadership of the Army has found it pleasing to lay siege and militarize the civil spaces in the relatively peaceful South East region through various reprehensible phases of Operation Python Dance. This latest effort to find a pretext to justify a state of emergency in our region is just a facet in the unfolding continuum to annihilate us,” ASETU stated.
The town unions, therefore, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly sack Gen. Buratai in the interest of peace and national cohesion, and most importantly, “to prove to our people that his series of glaring and undisguised hate actions against us; do not have the seal of state authority.”

IPOB : FG Approves N654 Million To Monitor Illegal Radio Frequencies In South – East
THE Federal Executive Council, FEC, yesterday, approved N654 million for the deployment of hybrid spectrum monitoring system targeting illegal frequencies in the southern part of the country especially, the South East
This is coming on the heels of the growing agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for an independent nation.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Minister said that investigation had shown that the use of illegal frequencies in the country has become very rampant and a threat to the nation’s security.
According to him, “The Federal Executive Council chaired by our boss, President Muhammadu Buhari has been briefed about an investigation carried out by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and also sought for the approval of deploying hybrid spectrum monitoring system most importantly to focus on the South Eastern zone of the country.
“Firstly, we have carried out an investigation of the use of illegal frequencies in the country which has become very rampant. From January to August 2020, within the period of eight months or thereabout, we discovered 320 frequencies being used all over the country and of this 320, 106 were illegal.
“This is very worrisome because the usage of this illegal spectrum or frequencies will compromise our security and safety in the country. It is because of the agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari in promoting security that we came up with this initiative of monitoring the usage of frequencies and to discover the legal and the illegal ones.
“For the legal ones, we will ensure that they get renewal (of their licenses) annually and for the illegal ones, necessary actions are being taken according to the gravity of the offence.
“We discovered that our monitoring did not cover South East. It covered five zones in the country: North East, North West, North Central, South West and South-South but South East has not been covered.
“It is because of this that we presented our memo, seeking for the council’s approval of N653,886,584 to procure and deploy hybrid spectrum monitoring system that will cover the southern part of the country, most importantly the south east.
“So, the council approved for the deployment and this project will go a long way in promoting safety and security and secondly, identify the usage of illegal spectrum and thirdly, enhance revenue for the federal government and fourthly, in the long run, it will create many jobs for the citizens.”
Asked how the spectrum has helped to arrest the worsening security situation in the North especially, the North East and the specific sanction for the illegal 106 ones discovered, the Minister said that such question should be directed to the security institutions and that there was nothing the security agencies had demanded to promote security through intelligence that was not provided to them.
“Like I said, it will go a long way in promoting safety and security in the National Frequencies Management Council of which I am the chairman. It has been established by law under NCA 2003 Section 31. Security institutions are represented in that council in addition to other institutions that deploy spectrum like ministries of transportation and aviation (they use frequency in the aircraft). Office of the National Security Adviser and Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC), as a regulator of broadcasting are also members of the council.
“It is in the council that each sector that feels that this council will add value to its activities, will come up with measures on how to use the council to promote what they need. So, it is because of this that we deploy this and security institutions are represented and whatever we do is in agreement with the law.
“So, if there is any question with regard to security, it is important to reach out to the security institutions. For your information, they have never requested anything from us that will promote security through intelligence that we have not provided. But I am not in the position to answer question on security particularly outside the mandate given to me.
“For those we have investigated so far, there is a process. When we discover the usage of illegal frequency, a letter will be written to that institution to draw their attention to it. If it is a government institution, there is a process of investigation.
“There is also a process if it is a private one. Sometimes, it will take up to litigation and we are in the process right now. I had a meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice on how to facilitate the process. So, we are in the process of doing that.”
It’s misplaced priority —Ohanaeze
Reacting to the development, the acting secretary general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prince Uche Achi-Okpaga described it as a misplaced priority and wondered what monitoring a zone that is peaceful will achieve.
“What are they monitoring in the South East that is peaceful? Let them go and monitor in the North East and North West where Boko Haram and bandits are terrorizing the people, killing them on daily basis.
“Can they monitor the activities of herdsmen? Why the attention on a place that is peaceful? In any case, there is nothing wrong in monitoring but the problem is the sentiments attached to it. It is very unfortunate, everything is South East.
“Look at how they unleashed soldiers to the South East who are just collecting money from the people at checkpoints that scattered everywhere in the South East. They are caught on camera and posted on social media every time. They have debased themselves. It is unfortunate. I ask again, what are they monitoring”, the secretary fumed.
Lauretta Onochie Clamouring For State Of Emergency In The South East As Military Intensifies Action
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Social Media Lauretta Onochie has called for a total lockdown of the entire Eastern region, if IPOB did not cease fire in attacking the Nigerian Security officers.
Onochie who made the call in Abuja during an interview session frowned at the way and manner in which IPOB is going about with the Biafra issue, thereby urged the Federal government to act fast before things gets out of hand.
According to her, “If time is not taking, i see another operation python dance happening in the Eastern region again.
“Why will a particular group of jobless people not allow this country to have peace of mind. Terrorizing and killing force men on duty.
“Those saying President Muhammadu Buhari should dialogue with IPOB should know that Mr. President has lots of important things to attend to, than wasting time to dialogue with a group who sees nothing good in his administration.
“Don’t quote me wrong, when Jonathan was on seat, where was IPOB and their criminal leader Nnamdi Kanu? Where were they? But immediately President Muhammadu Buhari defeated Jonathan, IPOB automatically became the mouth piece of PDP who are sponsoring them.
“Now they have an online Country called Biafra where Nnamdi Kanu is ruling them and also uses the platform to call Nigerian leaders unprintable names. All you hear in that his useless radio Biafra is Zoo, cowards, people without brain, Jubril Al Sudana, Prostitutes. Is that how a complete human being reason?
“I made it known to him and his followers few months ago that very soon something bigger than them will befall them. Now, it’s gradually looming and if time is not taking what happened in Abia State will repeat itself in the entire Eastern region
“The earlier Ohanaeze ndi Igbo call them to order, the better for them” She said.
However, The Army Chief, TY Buratai has issued a stern warning to IPOB and Igbo leaders that if the killing of the Nigerian Security officers continues, the entire Eastern region will be declared State of emergency.
This Is One Of The States In South East Of Biafra And Not Dubai Or London
To many people, the transformation of Ebonyi State within such a short time seems difficult to believe. Doubtedly, Ebonyi State was labeled by many as the most backward state in the South-East before now, but a change of leadership was what the state needed to catapult it to rub shoulders with other thriving states in the country.
Ebonyi State is the youngest state in the South-East, and in the past five years, it has grown to become one of the fastest growing states in the region. And the capital of the state, Abakaliki, has also grown to become the fastest emerging city in the South-East in the past five years.
See some beautiful photos of the capital of the state, Abakaliki:
Ebonyi State was created in 1996, and was carved out from Enugu and Abia States. Despite being blessed with several agricultural products like rice, beans, potatoes, cassava, maize, and yam, the State had remained under the bottom of the ladder for some years in terms of development.
But in 2015, when the new administration came into power, it immediately set into action to transform the state to rub shoulders with some other fast growing states in Nigeria. The present administration of the state has shown us what democracy should be about. It’s about setting up structures that will benefit the general masses.
Every sector of the state is growing at a really impressive rate. The infrastructural developments are things to write home about. Construction of good roads, hospitals schools, and the provision of clean water in different communities in the state have made Ebonyi State to stand out.
See photos of some infrastructural developments across the state:
Seeing the photos of this state, it is easy to mistake it for Dubai or London, because of its beauty and transformation. Ebonyi State success story is a clear proof that good governance is possible in Nigeria, and I wish other state governments can learn from this.
What do you have to say about the beauty of this state and the transformation it has witnessed in the past few years?
Also, like and share the article so that others can learn from it too.
